Hottest topic at Amazon not about global warming

Let’s see, there’s a plunging economy and sky-high unemployment rates, a controversial takeover of health care – one-sixth of the nation’s economy – that a vast majority of Americans oppose, new promotions of homosexuality and abortion, a foreign policy that seems uncertain except for the one shining day when members of the U.S. military took out the long-sought Osama bin Laden, an administration roiled with controversies and secrecy. So what more does an incumbent president seeking re-election in uncertain times desire?

How about being the hottest topic on Amazon.com?

Well, no. Actually that isn’t good either.

In a promotion today, the company listed “Where’s the Birth Certificate”: The Case that Barack Obama is not Eligible to be President” at the top of the “Most active product forums.”

The forum for Jerome Corsi’s “Where’s the Birth Certificate? The Case That Barack Obama Is Not Eligible To Be President,” a New York Times best-seller, features more than 500 “discussions.”

One of the new ones, only 38 minutes old at this point, already included 140 replies to the premise suggested, the subject of the author, Corsi, a Ph.D., debating Obama’s eligibility with “liberal Thom Hartmann.”

The comments included the authoritative declaration from “Mark J. Hale:” “Vattel’s Law of Nations is not the law of in the United States. … In determining what a natural born citizen is, the Supreme Court specifically rejected Vattel. They determined a natural born citizen is someone born on American soil regardless of the parents citizenship. Obama was born in Hawaii. That’s IT! Case closed!”

The affirmation apparently came in response to another comment that attributed to Vattel the quote, “In order to be of the country, it is necessary that a person be born of A FATHER WHO IS A CITIZEN; for if he is born there of a foreigner, it will be only the place of his birth, and NOT HIS COUNTRY.”

The dispute is over Obama’s eligibility based on the demand of the U.S. Constitution that presidents must be a “natural born citizen,” a term not defined in the Constitution but considered by many at the time of its writing to be a citizen born on the nation’s soil of citizen parents.

The issues raised in Corsi’s book apparently have been alarming to the Obama administration for some time, because after more than two years of declaring that an online image of a “Certification of Live Birth” was the only documentation available, Obama dispatched an attorney to Hawaii to pick up a copy of a “Certificate of Live Birth” and announced that the new image, was, in fact, the documentation.

But Hawaii state officials declined even to confirm to WND that the information released by Obama was an accurate representation of what their records hold.

And the release of the new image, which has been challenged by a number of experts regarding its authenticity, came just as Corsi’s book was hitting No. 1 on Amazon.com.

The actual original birth documentation still remains sealed from public view.

At Amazon Corsi’s book, which remained atop the standings in several categories including constitutional law and government, drew reviewers who reflected the stark division that is in America today.

Seventy-nine reviewers gave the book five stars; 54 gave it 1 star. There were only a total of 15 reviewers anywhere in the middle.

“This is not serious research, but rumor generation and propagation,” wrote J. Potter.

At the other end of the scale was “Billy,” who said, “Richard Nixon has to be chuckling in his grave that he’s been let off the hook by this side show. The most obvious giveaway that the BC is fake is the curvature of the lines on the left side, like a photocopy from a book. Yet the text runs perfectly straight! … Normally I would not buy a book that I could find most the info on google, but I think this book is the exception.”

Joining the side of the critics was “Nimitta,” who said, “That anyone could possibly take Jerome Corsi seriously in light of his past work is a sad commentary…”

But among the fans, “bcdeaton,” wrote, “This book is awesome. It was powerful enough to make obama put out another fake certificate of live birth.”

The book questions whether Barack Obama illegally is occupying the Oval Office. Corsi “demonstrates conclusively that no legal authority has ever verified Obama’s legal eligibility to be president, that glaring inconsistencies, blackouts, and outright fabrications in his life narrative have generated widespread doubts, and that, in fact, a compelling body of evidence says Obama is not a natural-born citizen as is required of all presidents by Article 2, Section 1, of the Constitution.”

Points he raises include:

• Obama’s status as a dual citizen of the United Kingdom and U.S. at his birth.
• His status as a Muslim and Indonesian citizen, according to school records, during his school years.
• The widespread reports that he was born at Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu – before those reports were changed after the fact to make the birth place Kapiolani.
• The fact that some dozen states are considering legislation that could require presidential candidates to document their eligibility before they would be allowed on the 2012 ballot.

Corsi previously authored the New York Times best-sellers “Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry” as well as “The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality.”

Other “discussions” swirling around the book included “Of birthers and layers,” “Obama is not eligible because forging documents is a felony. Felons can’t be president,” “Obama is not natural born because his father was not a USA citizen,” “tornado victim blasts obama on his constant lies,” “UK: New book questioning Obama’s birth place flies off the shelves,” “White House has hired a dedicated propagandist whose role will be to savage people who tell ‘lies’ about the president,” “Criminal complaint charges Obama birth record ‘forged,'” and “Obots love Jerome Corsi so much, they spent [their] entire weekend on the forum.”

The book, after reaching No. 1 at Amazon several weeks ago and before its official release, debuted at No. 6 on the New York Times best-sellers list.

CNN has reported that even though Obama released his “Certificate of Live Birth,” 17 percent of Americans still think he probably or definitely was born not in the U.S.

In its first week in release, the WND Book reached No. 8 on the Wall Street Journal non-fiction list.

On USA Today’s list, the book scored at 26 overall in the combined rankings of fiction and non-fiction.

And, on the Publisher’s Weekly bestsellers list, the book came in at No. 9 among non-fiction.

The book topped out at No. 1 at Amazon nearly a month ago in pre-release.
