Terror group promises war if Syria attacked

WASHINGTON – In a warning to the West, a senior member of Loyalty to the Resistance, or the Iranian-backed Hezbollah of Lebanon, has threatened military action should Syria come under attack from members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, according to a report from Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin.

"Any aggression against Syria is aggression against the members of the resistance front and Hezbollah will not stand still with its hands tied," said former Lebanese Labor minister and Hezbollah member Tarad Hamadah.

Hezbollah's warning follows a veiled threat by Iranian officials that the Islamic republic would move quickly against any military strike on Syria by NATO.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, who had accused the Western powers of trying to push Syria into a crisis to establish a "new balance of power" in the Middle East, said such a move would push the "whole region into crisis."

Shi'ite Iran and Hezbollah side with the Shi'ite Alawite regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Meantime, a U.S. intelligence source has told G2Bulletin that a splinter Lebanese group which he said is close to Hezbollah has threatened to kidnap Israeli soldiers or Israeli tourists – from "Nicosia in particular" – a development which could precipitate an Israeli military attack that, in turn, most likely would prompt Hezbollah retaliation.

Hezbollah and Hamas have stated publicly that resistance to the Israelis can only be achieved by continued kidnappings of additional Israelis in an effort to gain the return of members of Hezbollah and Hamas still in Israeli prisons. This decision follows the recent exchange between Israel and Hamas of 1,027 Hamas prisoners from Israeli jails for one Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit.

For some time, regional analysts say, the Israelis have been looking for any provocation to initiate action against Iran and Syria and the Syrian and Iranian-backed Hezbollah and Hamas.

The threat of a possible NATO attack follows NATO's recent attacks on Libya, which toppled the regime of deposed and now deceased Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.

Western powers seek regime change in Damascus following that government's use of tanks and strong military reaction in response to repeated demonstrations against the al-Assad government.

Western countries repeatedly have tried to get al-Assad to implement promised reforms which most observers have not seen forthcoming.

Hamadah said that the Syrian government is "still capable of implementing reforms and meeting all the demands raised by the people."
