The field of viable Republican candidates for the most important presidential election in American history is narrowing.
Herman Cain, a fresh face showed promise and raised the hopes of tea-party activists around the country with a strong popular showing. But, whether he knows it or not, his moral character and honesty has been questioned one too many times by one too many women for him to continue a serious bid for the presidency.
Cain had emerged as an alternative to Republican politics as usual, represented by Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry.

Of the three, Romney poses the greatest danger to the Republican Party and the future of the nation. We might not get another chance to save America after four years of Barack Obama pursuing the most destructive policies imaginable. Romney is not what the doctor ordered. He doesn't have the prescription we need now. Romney is an establishment Republican, a true heir to the Rockefeller wing of the party. Don't be fooled by his impressive conservative rhetoric in 2011. Just go back and watch the YouTube videos of his campaign against Ted Kennedy – when he ran to the left of the swimmer. If Romney wins in 2012, he will institutionalize the very worst aspects of Obamaism – dooming all hope for America's recovery. We'll deserve what we get, too, for lacking any discernment.

Then there's Gingrich. It's hard not to like what you hear from him in those debates – except, of course, when he slips up and tells you what he really thinks about illegal immigration or global warming or why it's OK for him to be on the take from Freddie Mac. Many conservatives will drink the Kool-Aid for Newt. I have no illusions about that. But he is not what America needs in 2012 – not by a long shot. Frankly, I am sick to death of hearing about how smart and accomplished he is. Arrogance and pride will be the downfall of any leader.
Perry doesn't seem to be fooling nearly as many Republicans as the others. But, no, he does not have the right stuff, in case you had any doubts. Between gaffes, what he says sounds good. He's got a decent economic plan. He wants to drill for oil. He hates the U.N. and the State Department and foreign aid. All good. But it's all disingenuous. He claims to be a fighter for a secure border, but, as governor of Texas, he helps create a magnet for more illegal immigration by extending in-state tuition to them. Then there's Gardasil and a million other disappointments. I looked under the hood on this one a long time ago. I didn't like what I found.

So that brings us to the question of alternatives.
I like a lot of what Rick Santorum and Ron Paul have to say. I also have some problems with both of them. But if either of them got the nomination, I would support them enthusiastically. But neither one is going to get the nomination.
That leaves one other candidate – Michele Bachmann.
She's the real deal, folks. She's 100 percent. She's gaffe-proof. She's smarter than Newt, but doesn't brag about it half as much. She's honest. She's sincere. And she really believes in what she says.

What we need to pray for prior to the Iowa primary is a Michele Miracle.
Pray fervently for the future of this country – that it should be worthy of the blessings God has bestowed upon it for 235 years.
And ask God for a little miracle this year.
Ask Him to give us Michele.
