Researchers from the University of Michigan have recovered of a pole-shaped piece of wood that's 8,900 years old about 100 feet below the surface of Lake Huron.
John O'Shea, a University of Michigan anthropology professor involved in the find, says it offers hope that more intact evidence of human activity will be found in the area.
The wood is tapered and beveled on one side in a way that researchers say appears deliberate.
