Tell Washington just how to clean up its act

Tea-party voters ruled during the 2010 election, handing control of the U.S. House to the Republican Party and forcing Democrats to scramble to stave off collapse in the Senate. But in 2011, the recipients of that support did little to advance the tea party agenda of a smaller, less intrusive Washington focused on its constitutional obligations, according to Tea Party Nation founder Judson Phillips.

Obamacare hasn’t been eliminated. There’s no balanced-budget amendment. Foreign aid still rushes out of Washington in the billions. Iran apparently still is on track to acquire nukes. The Environmental Protection Agency still issues rules.

There has been some progress, but in the wrong direction, tea-party supporters say. After all, Barack Obama did open the U.S. military to openly practicing homosexuals.

So as the next make-or-break point comes for America – the 2012 election – Phillips has created an online assessment for voters to tell candidates just exactly what they want to see happening in their house, the U.S. Capitol.

“It’s a fair statement that the tea party was pretty much ignored by Washington most of this year, 2011,” Phillips told WND. “But we want to allow millions of Americans who identify [as tea-party members] an opportunity to tell the Republican candidates this is what they think is really important.”

The combination assessment provides an opportunity for website visitors to participate in a straw poll for the GOP nominee for president, and they can pick among Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry, Buddy Roemer, Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman, Ron Paul or other.

There’s also the opportunity to let the candidates through the results know the important issues.

Among the options are a balanced budget amendment, balancing the budget by cutting spending, eliminating waste and fraud in the government, cutting taxes, enacting the fair tax, creating a national sales tax, repealing the income tax, repealing Obamacare, requiring Supreme Court justice nominees to be pro-life, eliminating the left-leaning 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, removing activist judges from their judgeships, overturning Roe v. Wade, halting Iran’s march toward nuclear weapons and many more.

The results will show, Phillips said, “Here’s what the tea party thinks.”

“One of the old maxims,” he noted, “is that it’s not enough to replace leadership, but we must replace bad leadership with good leadership.”

Phillips wrote in a note to constituents that, “We need you to vote at teapartyvotes.com to tell the nation what the most important issues we want them to listen to and take action on in Washington. Once you’ve voiced your concerns, please vote in our Presidential Straw Poll.”

“In 2010, the tea party spoke and the politicians were in fear of us. We swept those who best reflected our values into an amazing victory. Then what did they do? They ignored us!” he noted.

“We cannot let them ignore us again.”
