(NJ.com) — BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP — Not only does Gov. Chris Christie not regret calling a Navy SEAL and one-time Democratic candidate for office an “idiot” at a town hall last week in Roebling, today he took the criticism further, labeling him a jerk, too.
“Just because he was a Navy SEAL doesn’t give him the right to be a jerk,” he said at a press conference today in Bordentown. “It just doesn’t. I honor his service. I honor his service in Afghanistan. I honor his service in Iraq and to our military. But, it doesn’t give you the right when you come home from that service to be an idiot.”
Bill Brown, a student at Rutgers-Camden law school, rejected Christie’s claim that he had a “political agenda” and wanted to make the Republican governor look bad. Brown said he talked to Christie in his capacity as a veterans advocate when Christie was running for governor, at a veterans forum in September 2010 and on a recent installment of a live call-in show on 101.5FM; Brown also testified before the Rutgers Board of Governors last month.
