(SOUTH FLORIDA SUN-SENTINEL) — They’ll pick up your garbage — and help fight crime.
More than 225 workers hauling trash for Waste Management have been trained to keep an eye out for suspicious activities as they drive along their routes in the wee hours of the morning.
The surveillance program, aptly dubbed Waste Watch, rolled out this week in Broward County as part of a new partnership between Waste Management and the Broward Sheriff’s Office. And it’s coming to Palm Beach County in the next couple months, said Dawn McCormick, a spokeswoman for Waste Management.
“We’re training over 200 of our drivers to be an extra set of eyes and ears in the community,” McCormick said.
