(CHICAGO TRIBUNE) — The polls are open today for Illinois’ primary election as voters choose nominees for the fall in races from the White House to Congress to county boards after a final week of campaigning that saw the Republican presidential battle overshadow lower-level contests.
Topping the ballot on the Republican side is the race between Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul for the GOP presidential nomination. Democratic voters, meanwhile, will decide several heated congressional contests in newly drawn districts.
Romney is spending today raising some money. The former Massachusetts governor also plans to tour Google’s Chicago office this afternoon. In the evening, Romney heads out to watch election returns roll in at a hotel in Schaumburg.
