(WSPA-TV) SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. -- On Sunday morning a man entered South Side Freewill Baptist Church armed with a shotgun and hunting knife.
Spartanburg County Sheriff's Deputies told 7 On Your Side that Jesse Frank Gates came to the church Sunday morning and said he had chest pain. Paramedic determined he was fine. About an hour later, deputies said Gates returned to the church with the weapons and kicked in the locked side door of the church during the service.
Once inside witnesses and investigators said Gates, pointed the shotgun at the pastor and congregation.
