(Washington Examiner) President Obama announced today that he is giving former Secretary of State Madeline Albright, along with twelve others, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

“These extraordinary honorees come from different backgrounds and different walks of life, but each of them has made a lasting contribution to the life of our Nation,” President Obama said in a statement on the awards. “They’ve challenged us, they’ve inspired us, and they’ve made the world a better place.”

Albright served as President Clinton’s Secretary of State, and was the first woman to hold the job.
