(DETROIT FREE-PRESS) — While growing up in Michigan, Dominic Sheahan-Stahl said, he was taught in Catholic schools that everyone is worthy of God's love.
"I was told God is love. ... No one is outside the love of God," Sheahan-Stahl recalled.
And so when the principal of his alma mater in Mt. Pleasant, Sacred Heart Academy, asked the 32-year-old actor last fall to be the commencement speaker at graduation, he accepted, eager to help out his old school and a community he loved.

But last month the principal rescinded his invitation after finding out through Facebook that Sheahan-Stahl is openly gay and engaged to marry a man. The principal said that is a violation of Catholic teachings.
