(KTLA) — At least 14 people have been sickened by salmonella-contaminated dog food but experts are urging pet owners not to panic.
Pet owners have flooded local veterinarians after hearing of the food contamination that's making humans sick. Culver City vet Jeff Werber says people aren't people aren't eating the dog food, they're just handling it incorrectly.
"It's just poor hygiene around the house," Werber told KTLA. "Petting a dog, especially 'back there' and then they go to prepare food and then they go and put their hands in their mouths, they're making a salad and mixing that salad and not washing their hands first and that's how these bacteria are (spread)."
