It took Obama six days to renew his calls for a ban on guns in the aftermath of the movie theater murders in Aurora, Colo. Following is an excerpt from his comments to the National Urban League:
“I, like most Americans, believe that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual the right to bear arms. I think we recognize the traditions of gun ownership that passed on from generation to generation, that hunting and shooting are part of a national heritage, but I also believe that a lot of gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not in the hands of criminals; that they belong on the battlefield of war, not on the streets of our cities.”
Obama is as driven to undermine our Second Amendment right to own and bear arms as Satan is to have sinners in hell. And let there be no doubt about it – that is the sensus plenior of Obama’s insidious bromide.
In saying that “hunting and shooting are part of a national heritage,” he was applying a familiar hypocorism that we are all comfortable with, and then contrasting it in such a way that the unthinking will agree. Who wouldn’t agree that AK-47s do not belong in the hands of criminals?
If Obama feels so strong that guns belong in the hands of soldiers not criminals, then why weren’t the thousands of assault rifles that were sold to the most violent and dangerous drug cartels in this hemisphere sold to the Mexican military instead?
Obama is the most mendacious and pernicious, narcissistic megalomaniac ever to occupy elected office. He makes Hugo Chavez appear sane and coherent. And as is always the case – Obama is hanged by the words and comments he wasn’t able to have sealed from public view.
If he recognizes “the traditions of gun ownership that [were] passed on from generation to generation,” why did he insult small-town Pennsylvanians April 6, 2008, when he told a fundraiser: “You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest … people get bitter and cling to guns or religion.” Of course, deeper analyzation of his comment suggests it was (in his mind) a clever and coded way of disparaging whites.
Katie Pavlich wrote: “In law school, [Obama] was mentored by liberal legal scholar Laurence H. Tribe, who … was a fervent opponent of gun rights. … Tribe recalled, [Obama] was the best student [he] ever had.” (“Fast and Furious: Barack Obama’s Bloodiest Scandal And Its Shameless Cover-Up”; page 16)
Pavlich wrote that in 1994, Obama was on “the board of the Joyce Foundation, a liberal-leaning organization so active in advocating restrictions on gun ownership that it is known as the anti-NRA.”
She writes: “In 1999 Obama was quoted by the Chicago Defender newspaper at an anti-gun rally proposing a 500 percent increase in federal taxes ‘on the sale of firearm ammunition.’ In 2000, as an Illinois state senator, Obama co-sponsored … [restrictive and punitive legislation limiting the firearms purchases by law-abiding citizens].
And if, as he told the National Urban League, he “[recognizes the traditions of gun ownership passed on from generation to generation [and] that hunting and shooting are part of our national heritage” – then why did he “in 2003 … vote for a bill banning the private ownership of hunting shotguns, target rifles, and black powder rifles in Illinois”?
His comment that he believes “a lot of gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not … criminals … [and] not on the streets of our cities” is pure bêtise. And it was intended to set up another straw dog. At face value no responsible person would disagree with what he said.
But there is no way to remove or restrict firearms in America except by taking them from the hands of the law-abiding and enthusiasts. Some would argue that the very fact Obama holds the office he does proves there is no way to legislate crime out of existence, but I digress. Criminals will always have weapons, and they will always commit criminal acts: that’s why they’re called criminals. Nor can the unstable be prevented from saying and/or doing unstable things; once again, I use Obama as the best example of making comments most typically viewed as those of a person not fully in control of his mental faculties.
The simple truth is that Obama hates guns and will do whatever it takes to undermine the Second Amendment and deny us our constitutional rights pursuant to same.
There was no way to prevent the massacre in Aurora, and to use that tragedy as a bugbear to further a diabolical agenda is morally opprobrious and beneath contempt, but obviously not out of character for Obama.
My friends and I, like hundreds of thousands of other shooting enthusiasts, enjoy shooting guns of every description on ranges around the nation. We are enthusiasts and collectors; we do not need Obama and gun-haters dictating the terms under which we enjoy our sport.
My advice to Obama would be to focus on the economy and to focus on having Eric Holder obey congressional subpoenas – and leave how we spend our free time to us.
There are more than 22,000 gun laws – one more or 10 more isn’t going to do anything other than punish legitimate gun enthusiasts.
