(Palm Beach Post) Democrats accused Republican Gov. Rick Scott of bullying the supervisor of elections in Monroe County on Wednesday, the latest salvo in the high-stakes battle over early voting in the November elections in Florida.
Scott has rejected talk of expanding the number of early-voting days in the state prior to this year’s presidential election despite a federal court ruling that a new state law could hurt minority participation and hinted he may take action against Monroe County Supervisor Harry Sawyer — the lone county election supervisor who is not going along with a plan to offer only eight days of early voting instead of at least 12 days.
