I think Mr. Farah may be ahead of his time in proposing a political realignment in the USA based on religiously defined values "My proposed political realignment"]. To bolster the point, I would argue that liberal progressivism is a de facto religion, not a secular political viewpoint. In his work "The Outline of History," H.G. Wells said that most wars are rooted in a religious conflict. The war of ideas raging in America between liberal progressives and true conservatives is no different. Although many liberals insist they personally are non-religious, into that vacuum has flown a very old religion, indeed. As G.K. Chesterton put it, "When people cease to believe in God, they don't believe in nothing, they believe in anything."
Were he alive today, Chesterton might well agree that liberal progressivism is a de facto religion promulgating the worship and adoration of an insatiable god called Big Government. In this scenario, Washington, D.C., is liberal progressivism's venerated holy site wherein Big Government demands the sacrifice of human lives and the treasure of others in order to grow exponentially. Yes, the blood ceremony is disguised by a veneer of politics and legalisms, but the underlying template mirrors ancient pagan religions that ritualized the appeasement of vengeful gods with the sacrifice of human beings and communal food offerings.
The disciples of Big Government naturally transfer their religious adoration to the Big Government high priest, a throwback to the worship of Pharaoh as a god in ancient Egypt. Speaking ill of the high priest is heresy punished severely. Hence, the near universal silence of the liberal population. Neither the liberal media, nor liberal politicians, nor liberal unions, nor liberal intelligentsia, nor liberal rank and file will chastise Obama even though he is lying through his teeth, trashing the Constitution, expanding illegitimate wars, killing the economy, stoking racial strife and nuking cherished individual freedoms.

"Big Government is my god, and Obama is high priest." Alas, for liberal progressives, that religious mantra, akin to a death wish, seems to trump all reason, logic and intellectual honesty, if not the inherent spirit to be alive and free.
