Will your child attend LGBT 'mixer' at school?

Parents are being advised to keep their children home from school on Oct. 30 if their local education officials allow the Southern Poverty Law Center's "Mix It Up" day to be held on campus.

The advisory comes from the pro-family American Family Association in response to the pro-homosexual message expected to be delivered during the events.

According to the New York Times, the event encourages students to "hang out with someone they normally might not speak to."

But the AFA said the underlying agenda for the SPLC is to promote homosexuality.

"American Family Association is joining other family-oriented groups in urging parents to keep their children at home that day (Oct. 30) if their local school is sponsoring the 'Mix It Up' project," the organization said.

"The Southern Poverty Law Center is using this project to bully-push its gay agenda, and at the same time, intimidate and silence students who have a biblical view of homosexuality."

AFA noted that some schools have participated without school officials' permission, and parents should find out whether that's the case in their district.

"Many school administrators were offended to learn that their school was listed as a 'participating' school on the SPLC website and ordered it removed immediately. In some cases, students or teachers independently signed the school up without approval, leaving principals and superintendents unprepared for phone calls from concerned parents," AFA reported.

The London Daily Mail reported promoters confirmed the program was intended to "break down social barriers and curb bullying."

SPLC, which has blasted the AFA as a "hate" organization for its biblical perspective on homosexuality. The organization, likewise, labeled the Family Research Council a "hate" group before a volunteer at a "gay" community center allegedly gunned down a security guard at FRC's headquarters before being captured.

The SPLC's designation puts the AFA alongside neo-Nazis, black separatists and those who deny the Holocaust happened.

SPLC also notes that it has a "free curriculum kit" with which teachers can provide the activist agenda to students.

The "Mix It Up" campaign suggests that students "swap seats" at a lunch period in order to sit with those who are not in their regular lunch crowd.

AFA spokesman Bryan Fischer told the New York Times that SPLC promotes homosexuality and "that philosophy then informs the school program.

"Anti-bullying legislation is exactly the same. It's just another thinly veiled attempt to promote the homosexual agenda. No one is in favor of anyone getting bullied for any reasons, but these anti-bullying policies become a mechanism for punishing Christian students who believe that homosexual behavior is not something that should be normalized."

A spokeswoman for the "Mix" promotion confirmed recently to the Times that some 200 schools had canceled their participation

But AFA reported there still are hundreds more who now are listed by SPLC as having plans to observe the day, described as "a nationwide push to promote the homosexual lifestyle in public schools."

AFA said. "A strong focus is directed specifically to elementary and junior high grades."

"This is the same organization that launched hateful and malicious rhetoric toward the Family Research Council just prior to the august shooting of a security guard," AFA said.
