Vote for Mitt Romney

I am not a likely candidate to endorse Mitt Romney for president.

In fact, I once wrote, during the heated primary contest earlier this year, that I wouldn't vote for Mitt Romney if he were running against Satan himself.

Fortunately, I never said what I would do if he were running against Barack Obama.

Today, Election Day 2012, I regret those harsh words.

I don't pretend to suggest that I expect Mitt Romney to solve America's deepest problems. I have many disagreements with Romney. But America simply cannot afford four more years of Barack Obama – not no way, not no how.

It's unthinkable, unimaginable. It's a nightmare scenario. I honestly believe it would spell the end of America as we have known it as a flawed but great experiment in limited government, self-government, constitutional republicanism.

What Romney represents to me is an opportunity to avoid a judgment from which America has little or no chance of coming back. We need to buy ourselves some time as a country.

That's why I will go to the polls today and vote enthusiastically for Mitt Romney. It's a matter of self-defense and self-preservation.

It's not just for my country that I do this.

It's for me personally – and all voices of opposition to Barack Obama and the radical Democratic agenda that is changing the face and character of America at warp speed.

I believe a second term of Obama will spell the end of real opposition to that agenda. With four more years and no future election to face, Obama and the Democrats will use their power to attack their political enemies and adversaries with more zeal and more certainty than they attacked Osama bin Laden.

It's their nature. It's in their DNA. It's what they do. They've already done it in Obama's first term – in the form of politically motivated audits, Internet regulations and efforts to kill freedom of speech on talk radio. What do you think they will do if returned to power?

I don't expect Mitt Romney to seek my advice. I have no illusions that I will be invited to state dinners. I fully expect to be critical of his administration. But I don't expect him to come gunning for me or others who attempt to hold him accountable to the Constitution and the principles that made this country great. It's not in his nature. It's not in his DNA.

I'm an unlikely candidate to endorse Mitt Romney because his campaign steadfastly refused to advertise in WND, even while Obama's campaign did.

But I'm doing it anyway today. There is simply no other choice. And I tell you this as the author of the 2008 book, "None of the Above." That's right. I didn't vote for John McCain in 2008, but I am voting for Mitt Romney in 2012. Let's hope and pray there are many more like me today.

Not only do I have no regrets about that decision in 2008, I still believe it was the right thing to do. As I predicted, as a result of Obama's victory, millions of Americans who never protested government actions or attended rallies or attended a demonstration got off their duffs and went into the streets. The tea-party movement was born. And it made its power felt in 2010. Let's hope and pray that fervor is still alive and eluding the attention of the pollsters who say this race is a toss-up.

Some of you listened to my advice in 2008. I'm grateful for that. If you did or if you didn't, I hope and pray you will heed it today.

Vote for Mitt Romney.
