(UTSANDIEGO) — Jillian Ellis has turned the disappointment of two pink slips in 2012 into entrepreneurial success this holiday season.
In October, Ellis, 24, an already a twice-laid-off high school English teacher, decided to sew burlap Christmas stockings and sell them on Etsy.com, a website for people to offer up their handmade crafts.
Two months later, she’s sold $65,000 worth of her products, and the orders are not stopping. On Thursday she still had 160 to fill.
“It was mainly that I had nothing to lose,” Ellis said. “I was trying to find my niche.”
