(Palm Beach Post) Attorneys representing the Palm Beach County School Board are trying to chip away today at claims that a Pahokee girl suffered any long-lasting trauma when she was sexually assaulted by an older student on a school bus when she was 3 ½ years-old.
On the second day of trial, the attorneys today challenged claims by the girl’s parents who testified that the child who came home after the January 2007 assault is not the same one who left the house that morning.
The issue is key to the school board’s case. While the board has admitted fault, it is contesting the amount of money the district should pay. Board attorneys maintain that the girl was too young to remember what happened. Therefore, they are arguing, she suffered little and doesn’t need money for therapy that her parents claim she desperately needs.
