(WTVJ-TV) A federal judge has dismissed terrorism support and conspiracy charges against a Muslim cleric in South Florida accused along with his father of funneling cash to the Pakistani Taliban.
Izhar Khan, 26, an imam at a mosque in suburban Margate north of Fort Lauderdale, was expected to be a free man Thursday because U.S. District Judge Robert Scola issued a verdict of acquittal for him. Khan's case was listed as "terminated" on Thursday, court records show.
Scola ruled Thursday there was insufficient evidence against Khan, imam of Masjid Jamaat Al-Mumineen mosque off Sample Road.
