The American people will be asked to make choices in the coming years regarding the solvency of several of the various states.
California and New York, among others, have pushed the progressive agenda to the breaking point. After years of social engineering and vote buying, they are beginning to run out of other people’s money. It is likely they will ask the federal government for a bailout.
Rather than be caught off guard by the constant scheming of the corrupt oligarchs that run the two major parties, the tea party and other reformers should anticipate this sham and have their own alternative prepared: true constitutional secession. Never let the oligarchs dissuade you. We could save California, just not within its current borders.
With the exception of the extremely important Virginia governor’s race in 2013, all eyes should be on 2014. To win the election, the reformers need to pick their campaign issues now and begin to recruit and train candidates to run on those issues and win the electorate. One of those issues can be the isolation of the progressive enclaves that ruin otherwise viable states.
Article 4, Section 3, of the U.S. Constitution reads, “New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new State shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or Parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.”
The tea party can campaign with a promise that if New York wants a bailout there will be a serious political price: New York City becomes its own state with its own U.S. senators. The rest of the Empire State would remain just as it is now but with a voter base shorn of the Big Apple. Likewise, Chicago could become a new “city-state,” should Illinois find itself in dire straits. California would be divided in three: Northern Californians would finally get the state of Jefferson and be allow to keep Sacramento. San Diego County would form the nucleus of a new state of South California. And the newly reduced Golden State would consist of the stretch of leftism running from Los Angeles to San Francisco.
This is a real plan, not a fantasy. The constitutional power to do this already exists and has existed since the founders. Nor would this get out of hand. Potential secessions must take into account population size, economics and geography. This is why California, Illinois and New York are such obvious examples. Intra-state secession shouldn’t be done in such a way that strengthens leftism in the U.S. Senate. This is secession from insolvency, a long-term plan to right our state and national ships.
The oligarchs want to the frustrate Americans into abandoning their country with fantasies about “civil war” or “lost-cause” nostalgia. These are distractions that focus attention on a period of time consumed with debates on race and slavery, allowing the oligarchs to portray their opponents as closet racists. Stop playing their game. What the oligarchs do not want is the American people retaking the Congress and using the power of the Constitution. Think of this as Reconstruction 2.0, done properly.
This is a win-win. If the California or New York Legislatures refuse to consent to the division of their states, then the reforming U.S. senators and U.S. representatives from the other states would simply affirm that they will not give them a bailout unless they consent. There will be no negotiation with President Obama. This will be a take-it-or-leave-it deal. Once they realize the reformers and the American people are unyielding, they will have a choice of consenting or eradicating large parts of their expensive, left-wing state programs. The choice will be theirs. But it just might make for a rebirth of freedom for people in states dominated by huge progressive enclaves. Who knows, maybe Portland or Detroit will be on the list?
A reformed Congress must remember its duty: “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government …” This is a reason to elect a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate and increased majorities in the House. It is time to secede from bad government.
