(Washington Times) A former sailor testified Wednesday about how he was raped by a senior petty officer while serving aboard the submarine tender USS Frank Cable in 2000 — and his command’s response to the assault.
"I was ordered by my command not to report this crime," former Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Brian Lewis told a Senate panel examining sexual assault in the military.
Mr. Lewis testified with two other victims of military sexual assault before the Senate Armed Services subcommittee on personnel. Each told stories of intimidation and retaliation by their commanders after reporting they had been raped by fellow service members.
