(NYDAILYNEWS) — "Word masters" in California apparently need a spelling refresher.
A 12-year-old girl who spelled "braille" correctly at the Selma School District Spelling Bee earlier this month was told she spelled the word wrong by judges. They incorrectly told Sierra Shoemaker that the correct spelling was "braile."
"I didn't really want to say anything because when the word master tells you spelled a word wrong you don't really want to argue with him," Sierra told KMPH in Fresno. "So, I was shocked I kind of just said 'What?' I looked around at the audience and half of them were looking at each other murmuring."
