The violence done in abortion “clinics” has been covered by WND, LifeNews.com and other pro-life websites for years, but now the murder trial for abortion practitioner Kermit Gosnell, who is accused of snipping the spines of babies who survived the abortion procedure, is making inroads into the establishment media.
Recent reports on his ongoing trial in Philadelphia have made it onto Philly.com, the Houston Chronicle, the Wilmington, Dela., News-Journal, Forbes and even the Huffington Post.
Then, today, a local report of problems with a Planned Parenthood business in Delaware – former employees alleged unsafe and unsanitary conditions made them fear they would contract AIDS – was highlighted on the Drudge Report.
Has the blood and gore from behind the walls of “Women’s Centers” and “Health Centers” begun to get attention?
Troy Newman, president of the Kansas-based Operation Rescue, one of the pro-life organizations on the cutting edge of fighting abortion, says he believes mainstream reporting of the violence has been a little more gradual. But he’s glad it’s finally getting attention.
He’s documented dozens of cases, available throughout his organization’s website, of ambulances being summoned to abortion businesses to take a customer to the emergency room. Deaths have been reported, too.
Today’s attention focused on the report by WPVI in Delaware of two former Planned Parenthood nurses who said the facility was “just unsafe.”
“I couldn’t tell you how ridiculously unsafe it was,” Jayne Mitchell-Werbrich told the station.
And Joynce Vasikonis said, “They were using instruments on patients that were not sterile.”
The report said the rush to get patients in and out left operating tables contaminated, and they feared patients and others could catch hepatitis, even AIDS.
The report said they described the situation as “a meat-market style of assembly-line abortions.”
The nurses said they quit to protect their own professional reputations.
“Planned Parenthood needs to close its doors, it needs to be cleaned up, the staff needs to be trained,” Werbrich told the station.
The report noted that since Jan. 4, five patients apparently have been rushed from the facility to an emergency room.
Planned Parenthood’s statement said it provides “high-quality services.” But the statement, from CEO Ruth Lytle-Barnaby, said there have been some staff changes recently, because “we do not tolerate employees that fail to meet our standards.”
Gosnell’s case has been getting attention because of the horrific testimony coming from the courtroom.
One witness, former clinic worker Lynda Williams, talked of Gosnell’s practice of “snipping” the spines of babies born alive during abortions.
She once was instructed to take care of the procedure.
“I did it once and I didn’t do it again because it gave me the creeps,” she said in the Philly.com report.
Gosnell, 72, is accused of seven counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of infants born alive during illegal late-term abortions. He allegedly killed them by using scissors to cut their spinal cords. Prosecutors also allege Gosnell’s workers either were unlicensed or unschooled.
Newman, whose organization has run “Truth Trucks” around political conventions with huge images of aborted babies, told WND the information about such violence “has been steadily breaking through the abortion industry distortions.”
“When [abortion advocates are] forced to see it, they have to say this is an anomaly, like Gosnell,” he said.
But he said Gosnell isn’t unique.
“The things that Gosnell was doing are happening in abortion businesses around the country,” he said.
He cited photograph evidence of another abortionst who “was twisting the heads off babies.”
He was twisting the heads all the way around,” he said. “I’ve got pictures of it.”
But not only was the abortionist not under investigation, local medical authorities said he was an outstanding doctor.
“The shine is off the apple when it comes to abortion,” Newman said. “We’ve backed the cartel into a corner now. The whole world knows they kill people and don’t care about women. Abortion is a violent act that takes a baby’s life.”
Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List, said Planned Parenthood “cannot claim to be truly concerned for women’s health while at the same time opposing laws aimed at securing women’s safety inside abortion clinics.”
“America’s No. 1 abortion business cannot claim that the Kermit Gosnell ‘house of horrors’ is an isolated incident while their own employees expose them for conditions they call ‘ridiculously unsafe,'” she said.
“The abortion industry cannot be relied upon to police themselves, and repeatedly opposing efforts to strengthen health and safety standards in abortion clinics does not reflect true concern for women and girls,” said Dannenfelser.
Ellen Barosse, founder of the Delaware pro-life group A Rose and A Prayer, said Delaware “has a grisly history on abortion.”
“Kermit Gosnell, now on trial in Philadelphia for the murder of infants born-alive, practiced in Wilmington at the Atlantic Women’s Medical Center for years, as did two of those testifying against him,” she said. “It is a tragedy that in the state where we have the highest abortion rate in the country, these abortion clinics are not even subject to routine inspection. ‘Safe, legal, and rare’ has long been the mantra of the abortion industry and its supporters. It’s clear that in Delaware only legal matters – patient safety is not a concern.”
