(BOSTON HERALD) Dead Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev was a two-time Lowell Golden Gloves Champion who was idolized by his younger brother — who today remains at-large.
John Curran trained Tamerlan Tsarnaev for two years out of the Somerville Boxing Club in 2009 and 2010 and was one of the New England Golden Gloves Championship Team coaches who went to the Nationals in Salt Lake City with the fighter in 2009.
He found out about his former fighter’s involvement in Monday’s Marathon bombings when one of his fighters called him this morning at 6:30 a.m. “He called me and told me,” Curran said. “He said: ‘Do you believe it?’ I said, ‘I don’t. No.’ ”
