Thank you for the fine article on the president's visit and his "plans" for jobs ["Newspaper to Obama: Shove it, Mr. President"].
One point noted at the end of the article mentioned tax, presumably income tax, and simplifying it. It seems to me that if we – EVERYONE – paid a straight 10 percent across the board, without loopholes and other deductions, most of us would be paying at a lower bracket and more tax would be paid/collected annually now than is currently paid in. Plus everyone would be in the same 10 percent bracket, including elected officials. The tax laws would be simplified; each person pays 10 percent federal income tax on earnings – period!
I realize there would be a great outcry from those who pay no tax due to deductions, etc., but it just seems to me 10 percent is not too much to pay to do what needs to be done. Then, if we could get elected officials that have high work ethics and integrity and have actually held jobs other than political posts, we may be able to get back on the right track!
