(Huffington Post) An escaped inmate in Iowa was shot and killed by a 71-year-old homeowner Tuesday after taking the man and his wife hostage for four hours.
On Sunday, Rodney Eugene Long, 38, broke out of the Clarinda Correctional Facility, where he was serving a five-year sentence for burglary, KETV reported.
Long shot a sheriff's deputy, then stole the deputy's car, leading officials on a 40-minute chase before he crashed the vehicle and took off running into a wooded area, according to the Daily Iowegian. A massive manhunt ensued Monday.
