(AllVoices) With strikes looming in the fast food industry, a trade organization representing franchising businesses claims wage hikes would be disastrous for the industry.
The Service Employees International Union is backing a strike of fast food workers that union leaders hope will spread nationwide.
"It's time to boost the economy by raising pay for food service and retail workers," the SEIU said. "The economy is different now than it was before the recession. Millions of good, middle class jobs were wiped out during the downturn, and many of them aren't being replaced. The jobs that are now being created at a rapid pace — especially in food service and retail — tend to pay very little."

The campaign is seeking to guarantee fast food workers a minimum wage of $15 per hour and to allow workers to organize a union without fear of retaliation from employers.
