A bombshell report that there were as many as 35 CIA agents in Benghazi during the deadly attack on the U.S. consulate last year — and some are being pressured to remain silent — suggests “a Watergate-style cover-up” by the Obama administration, Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, tells WND.
“What we really need are those people that really know the truth as to why we didn’t get those people help,” Gohmert admonished.
The night four Americans – including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens – were killed by terrorists in Benghazi, there reportedly were dozens of CIA operatives on the ground near the scene – and now the spy agency is going to great lengths to keep whatever they were doing there a secret.
CNN reports that since January, several CIA operatives involved in the missions in Libya have been forced to submit to multiple polygraph tests to determine who may be talking about the massacre.
“They’re polygraphing CIA agents that have been in Libya like once a month just to make sure nobody is talking to Congress about what happened,” said Gohmert.
According to CNN, a CIA operative who passes information on to Congress or the media faces career-ending consequences.
“You have no idea the amount of pressure being brought to bear on anyone with knowledge of this operation,” one source said.
Gohmert, the vice chair of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security, has long been an outspoken proponent of a full investigation and is on record demanding a House select committee probe the bloodbath at the U.S. compound.
“I didn’t think there were any criminal laws that were being violated … but then when you hear they may be doing these kinds of things to keep things covered up, then they may be violating criminal laws and that may be something we need to pursue now.”
Gohmert also spoke to WND about Obama’s recent claim Republicans are focusing on “phony scandals” in an attempt to distract and erode the public’s trust in government.
“That statement by the president has about as much truth to as his statement that if you like your insurance company you can keep it.”
