Unholy war: 'Sex jihad' in Syria

In the latest twist in the civil war raging in Syria between the government and U.S.-backed rebels, Tunisian women are reportedly engaging in “sex jihad” in an effort to comfort Muslim Brotherhood fighters and then returning home pregnant, according to a report from the North African nation.

“They have sexual relations with 20, 30, 100,” Interior Minister Lofti ben Jeddou told members of Parliament in Tunisia, according to a London Telegraph report.

“Jihad al-nikah” (sexual holy war, in Arabic), involving extramarital relations with multiple partners, is permitted by some Muslim Salafists.

“After the sexual liaisons they have there in the name of ‘jihad al-nikah,’ they come home pregnant,” Ben Jeddou told officials.

Media reports suggest hundreds of women are among the thousands of Tunisians who have volunteered to do their part in the effort to topple the regime of Bashar al-Assad – traveling from Africa to Syria.

Ben Jeddou says his office has blocked some “six thousand of our young people” from going to Syria since March.
