Leftists are immoral: Pray for them

Meteorology and morality have been intimately connected ever since three wise men followed a star to an unconsidered corner of the Roman Empire to witness the Lord of Life utterly humbling Himself as He took the form of one of His creatures so that by His example and His message He could lead us away from immorality and toward immortality.

Now that the British obsession with the weather has gone global, the connection between meteorology and morality is again in the news. For the left has captured the scientific question of whether our transmuting 1/30,000 of the Earth's atmosphere in a century from oxygen to plant food will be a good thing or a bad thing, and it has made it political.

Communists, socialists and fascists everywhere, from Mr. Obama upward, have taken to the global warming cause like a quack to colored water. Just about every word they utter on this subject is a falsehood calculated to deceive, or – in plain English – a lie.

They say, "The science is settled!" That is a lie. The question of whether greenhouse gases can cause global warming is indeed settled, but the question of whether they are at all likely to cause enough warming to be worth worrying about is not. If it were, it would scarcely be necessary for thousands of "scientists" to write multi-thousand-page global warming assessments about it every five years or so.

They say, "There's a consensus!" That is a lie. A recent "scientific" paper claiming a 97.1 percent "consensus" that more than half the warming since 1950 was manmade in fact showed that only 0.3 percent of the 11,944 climate papers reviewed by the authors said they believed that we caused most of the warming since 1950.

They say, "The Arctic ice will all be gone by 2013!" That is a lie. It is still there. Oh, and the Antarctic ice has been growing for 33 years. In fact, in the next few days we may observe the greatest global sea-ice extent ever recorded at this time of year.

They say, "Santa Claus will have nowhere to live!" Greenpeace has put out a daft video showing him bemoaning the loss of his habitat to the accompaniment of the drip-drip-drip of melting ice. They are reduced to keeping the scare alive by lying about a fictitious character.

They say, "Polar bears are facing extinction!" The World Wide Fund for Communist Propaganda is raising tens of millions with ludicrous "Adopt-A-Polar-Bear" television adverts. Soon they'll be telling us what a "green" activist in Australia told me once: that the starving polar bears will soon be forced to eat the penguins. In fact, there are seven or eight times as many polar bears as there were in the 1940s. The penguins are not doing so badly, either – at the opposite Pole.

They say, "Sea level is rising dangerously!" That is a lie. The Envisat laser-altimetry satellite showed sea-level rising from 2004-2012 at a rate equivalent to just 1.3 inches per century. Not per decade. Per century. Four years ago a scientific paper reported that gravitational-anomaly satellites had shown sea level falling. You will not have seen that heartening fact reported anywhere in your favorite mainstream news medium.

They say, "There will be 50 million climate refugees from rising seas by 2010!" That is a lie. If it were true, where are they all? Drowned, perhaps, in an eighth of an inch of seawater?

They say, "OK, but there will be 50 million climate refugees from rising seas by 2020!" That is a lie. Caught out in one lie by the march of events, they push the date back a bit and shamelessly utter another. And the mainstream news media let them do it.

They say, "Global temperature is rising dangerously." That is a lie. On the evidence of the satellite record analysed by Remote Sensing Systems, Inc., there has been no global warming at all for 17 years three months.

They say, "The weather is warmer now than it has been for 1,400 years!" That is a lie. In the Middle Ages, as hundreds of scientific papers attest, it was warmer than today just about everywhere. There is nothing special about today's temperatures.

They say, "Tree-rings are an accurate way to measure temperature change in the age before thermometers." That is a lie. The World Meteorological Organization published a doctored graph on the front cover of a report in 2009, altering three separate tree-ring reconstructions to make them fit the global warming since 1960 when they did not fit it.

They say, "The rate of global warming is itself accelerating!" That is a lie. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a racketeer-influenced criminal organization, doctored a graph of global temperatures since 1850 to reach that nonsensical conclusion. After almost two decades without any global warming, suggestions that the world is warming ever faster are manifest nonsense.

They say, cruelly, "Global warming caused Typhoon Haiyan!" That is a lie. Since there has been no global warming for more than 17 years, the one thing we know did not cause that typhoon is global warming. Exploiting suffering and death to keep the taxpayer dollars flowing into the "scientists'" and "environmentalists'" pockets is an outrage.

I have chosen this particular selection of the outright lies told by the hard left on the climate question because there can be no doubt about the truth in each instance. We know they are lying. They know they are lying. They know we know they are lying. Yet they continue to lie, nonetheless.

Nevertheless, Christmas is a time for hope. Our hope is the left's greatest fear. It is that the world will continue to fail to warm at anything like the absurd rates they have been predicting, that eventually no amount of concealment of the facts by the mainstream media will hide from the people the truth that there is no global warming problem and that the voters will remember which side of the political spectrum lied and lied and lied again, and vote them out forever.

The left was unwise to try to politicize even the weather. For, as King Canute told his courtiers after he had demonstrated to them that even the divinely anointed king could not command sea levels not to rise and the tide not to come in, "It is only He Who made the oceans that can command them to come and to go. Therefore, to Him and to Him alone be all praise!"

A Merry Christmas to one and all. And let the New Year be the year in which the left learns that it is not only immoral to lie, but also politically disastrous.
