Regarding “Meet ‘the new birthers'” – it is all about protecting the regime in any and all circumstances. Facts have nothing to do with any of it. They just ignore those pesky things by not mentioning whatever they don’t want discussed. Simple as that. So they create whatever reality they desire because they can. At least so far.
