(CNBC) Stocks drifted higher Friday, with all three major averages on track for their biggest weekly gain of the year, following a batch of economic data.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rallied nearly 100 points, boosted by ExxonMobil and Cisco.
The S&P 500 also advanced, while the Nasdaq hit a fresh 13.5-year high. The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX), widely considered the best gauge of fear in the market, fell below 14.

Most key S&P sectors were in positive territory, led by energy and consumer staples. Telecoms remained in the red.
