(CBS NEWS) ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Albuquerque’s mayor said late Sunday that a more than 10-hour protest over recent police shootings – including the fatal shooting earlier this month of a homeless camper in the city’s foothills — turned from peaceful into “mayhem,” as officers in riot gear clashed with protesters who blocked traffic, tried to get on freeways and shouted anti-police slogans.
CBS Albuquerque affiliate KRQE-TV reports that police fired tear gas twice, at two separate groups of protesters, and several arrests were made.
Video from the station shows people being led away in zip-tie restraints, but it’s unclear if those people were among those arrested, of if any protesters were injured.
