Abortionist Douglas Karpen
A Texas abortionist who has been accused by former employees of the most gruesome of illegal procedures is now facing a lawsuit from a former patient who says she suffered "permanent injuries" as a result of a botched abortion.
Abortionist Douglas Karpen, who runs the Aaron Women's Clinic in Houston, is being sued by an undisclosed patient who claims a torn uterus, bleeding and extensive pain "as a result of medical negligence."

This isn't the first time Karpen has faced scrutiny over his abortion practice.
Pro-life activists dubbed Karpen the "Texas Gosnell" – after Pennsylvania's abortionist and convicted murderer Kermit Gosnell – when three former employees, Deborah Edge, Krystal Rodriguez and Gigi Aguliar, accused Karpen last May of terrifying practices, including twisting the heads off babies born alive, choking them to death or simply tossing them alive into trash bags.

The employees brought forward photographs of babies aborted well beyond Texas' legal limit of 24 weeks gestation.
"The photos show babies that are huge, with gashes in their necks, indicating that these babies were likely born alive, then killed, just as Kermit Gosnell did at his 'House of Horrors' clinic in Philadelphia," said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue, at the time. "In fact, there are numerous similarities between Karpen and the Gosnell case, including the disregarding of complaints by the authorities that allowed both men to continue their illegal operations."

The women's testimony prompted Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and 20 state legislators to demand an investigation, which was carried out by the Texas Department of State Health Services and the Harris County District Attorney's Office. In December, however, a grand jury chose not to indict him.
Legal documents from the most recent case claim Karpen's abortion patient's injuries were confirmed by another doctor who found internal bleeding.
"It's not like this is anything new," blasted Mark Crutcher, president of Life Dynamics, when he heard of the news. "I mean this is the same guy that killed a 15-year-old girl named Denise Montoya while doing a 'safe and legal' abortion on her."
Life Dynamics is the national pro-life organization that originally videotaped Edge, Rodriguez and Aguliar blowing the whistle on Karpen's practice.
Crutcher claims Life Dynamics also conducted an interview with one of Karpen's former abortion patients, saying it is "it's almost incomprehensible what they did to her."

"It's almost mind-boggling to think that there are people in this world who argue that these abortion clinics are safe and legal for women to go to," Crutcher said, "and then you hear from the women who actually went to one, and it's incredible that these people get away with this lie."
