Just a matter of time: End of history upon us?

By Jim Fletcher

With the chaos that is seemingly enveloping the world, natural disasters stand at or near the top of what makes people afraid.

Tsunamis, floods, earthquakes and much, much more have shaken the world in recent years. And because of the global economy, a disaster in one part of the world can affect food prices elsewhere. It is not uncommon today to hear people of all backgrounds, including (especially?) unbelievers and skeptics ask a simple question: Is the end of the world upon us?

For thousands of years, Bible believers have understood that there will be a definite signs of the end of human civilization, but various views exist on just what those signs will be. Now another potential sign looms just on the horizon: Blood moons.

Scripture mentions mysterious signs in the sky at the time of the end. Three times in the New Testament, we read specifically about the moon turning blood red: Joel 2:31; Acts 2:20; and Revelation 6:12.

Into these passages stepped a quiet pastor, Mark Biltz. Now, almost to his startled surprise, his new book, “Blood Moons: Decoding the Imminent Heavenly Signs,” is shattering sales records as readers can’t get enough of the subject.

In short, Biltz outlines why strange signs in the sky alert the observer to coinciding events in Israel. It’s a subject that is sweeping the Bible prophecy community, but not confined to it: A broad audience has been reached with news that we might be on the cusp of history’s end.

Nothing in Scripture is trivial, and so Biltz shows readers that the feasts of the Lord and the calendar of the Lord are hand-in-glove with eclipses and other signs in the heavens, signaling major events in history. That part of Biltz’s research that has gripped the public centers on modern Israel’s history.

We are in a “hot” cycle, as it were, with 2014/2015 another season of the blood moons upon us. Consider that this same phenomenon existed in 1492 when the Jews were expelled from Spain; in 1948 when Israel was reborn; and in the famed Six Day War of 1967. With the Iranian threat hanging over the Jewish state, not to mention other dramatic situations for Israel, observers of the blood moon story are naturally on pins and needles.

Several years ago, Mark Biltz became interested in the science of astronomy in light of Bible prophecy. He began to teach and explain his discovery of a series of lunar and solar eclipses that happened at the same time important dates (Passover, Feast of Tabernacles) on the Hebrew calendar.

As Biltz writes: “In Hebrew, we learned the word for signs is owth, and this word carries the meaning of sending signals. Think of a lighthouse on a dark and stormy night, trying to warn mariners of impending disaster. God created the sun and the moon as His own personal transmitters! This would be unbelievable if it wasn’t true! The question is, are we tuning in?”

Biltz deftly explains much of the Jewish roots of Christianity, and since many in the American church today have no clue of such things, it’s a valuable insight for understanding the blood moon phenomenon.

As Biltz writes, we see “how the spring feasts were used as signs pointing to the death, burial and resurrection of Yeshua, and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.”

Again, most Christians have no idea of the interconnected nature of Scripture and Jewish history, and all the author’s deluxe research helps develop a trail for understanding how to look for dramatic shifts in Israel’s fortunes.

Chapter 6 (“The Science of the Signs”) is rich with detail and fascinating insight. Biltz builds on data from NASA to explore the meaning of lunar eclipses, and his enthusiasm is contagious: “The total solar eclipse – March 20, 2015 – is on Nisan 1 [Hebrew calendar]; the very beginning of the religious year and the very day the fire fell from heaven and lit the altar at the dedication of Moses’ tabernacle! Following that, there will be a partial solar eclipse on September 13, 2015, which is on Rosh Hashanah. After that, just two weeks later, there will be a total lunar eclipse on Sukkot! This just rocks!”

Biltz, founder of El Shaddai Ministries, in Washington state, has lectured all over the world, and one of the more important facts about his story is that he is the first to uncover the blood moons impact. As with most popular subjects, there are other titles on this subject, but it would be hard to find another anywhere near as thorough and absorbing as “Blood Moons: Decoding the Imminent Heavenly Signs.”
