(SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE) CBS has named Comedy Central star Stephen Colbert as David Letterman’s successor for the “Late Show.”

In April, Letterman announced his upcoming retirement in 2015, bringing a torrent of speculation regarding who would step up to replace him.

Colbert, the faux-conservative host of Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report”, was rumored to be the CBS favorite.
