(KIRO-TV) — TACOMA, Wash. — A former Tacoma high school math teacher charged with child rape faces new charges after another student came forward to police.
Meredith Powell, 24, is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday for arraignment on a charge of sexual misconduct with a minor.
Powell pleaded not guilty to two counts of third-degree child rape and one count of communication with a minor for immoral purposes Feb. 7 after her arrest by Tacoma police. The allegations involve three male students at Lincoln High School. Powell was released without bail pending trial.
According to amended information filed in Pierce County superior court on Thursday, a student identified as A.D. met with Tacoma police detectives on March 25 and told them he had a sexual encounter with Powell in her classroom at Lincoln High in early January 2013 when he was 17 years old.
