FCC moves ahead with ‘Net neutrality’ plan

(FOX BUSINESS) The Federal Communications Commission on Thursday moved forward with new regulations regarding so-called net neutrality, a decision that could have far-reaching implications on how content is delivered over the Internet and how much consumers pay to have that content delivered.

The vote was along party lines, with Democratic appointees Tom Wheeler, the chairman, Mignon Clyburn and Jessica Rosenworcel approving the effort to develop new rules to keep the Internet “open” in the wake of recent court rulings that struck down two previous FCC efforts as “over-reach.”

Republican appointees Ajit Pai and Michael O’Reilly voted against the new regulations, saying the plan will hurt innovation. Pai said if new regulations are needed, Congress should legislate them.
