WND is proud to help present a monumental event inside the U.S. Capitol on May 7, 2014, when several lawmakers will offer prayers on behalf of the nation, the president and his Cabinet, the Supreme Court and its justices and members of Congress.
“Washington: A Man of Prayer, 2014" commemorates the events of April 30, 1789, when, after being sworn in at Federal Hall, President George Washington, accompanied by Congress, proceeded to St. Paul’s Chapel where, as one of his first official acts, the president offered a prayer of dedication to God on America’s behalf.

Many people have been discussing this event in articles on WND over the last few weeks.
Rep. Bachmann told WND the creation of America was a miracle, considering how a ragtag, underfed and underfunded Revolutionary Army could beat Great Britain, the strongest military power on Earth.
But, she said, there was a simple explanation: Instead of putting a king on the throne, Americans made God our sovereign.
See Bachmann explain in her own words why she believes God blessed America.

Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, told WND how the very man who coined the phrase "separation of church and state," President Thomas Jefferson, also saw no problem in allowing church services in the Capitol.
See the video of the congressman explaining how that long-forgotten fact of history that shows just how far the modern interpretation of the separation of church and state has strayed from the original intent of the founders.

One of the nation's foremost scholars on Washington, Dr. Peter Lillback, author of the No. 1 national bestseller, "George Washington's Sacred Fire, wrote an article for WND debunking the claim made by so many modern skeptics claim the nation's first president was a deist and not a Christian.
Lillback demonstrated how Washington saw the hand of God everywhere, especially in guiding the birth of America.

One of America's most influential and respected evangelical leaders, Dr. Robert Jeffress, told WND the pulpit and politics go hand-in-hand.
Instead of seeing a conflict, Jeffress described a complementary relationship, noting, "I believe one of the most potent ways we influence our culture right now is through politics."
"Every time we go into the voting booth, we are either casting a vote for righteousness or for unrighteousness. So I believe we ought to as pastors be encouraging our people not to vote for Republican or Democrat values but to vote for biblical values," he observed.
