(ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH) — ST. CHARLES COUNTY — A deaf student who will be a senior at St. Charles West High School this fall and her parents are suing the school district for alleged violations of the girl’s rights.
The suit, filed this month, claims that the school district discriminated against Rachel McMurtrey because of her disability. She claims to have suffered seven years of isolation, a lack of education and emotional distress. They are seeking more than $500,000.
Jeff Marion, superintendent of the St. Charles School District, said he was surprised and saddened by the lawsuit.
