Let's see, this country is spending $10 million a day to deal with the problem with ISIS – or ISIL, as the president insists on calling it – as we continue air strikes into Syria.
According to Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, that's more than we spent when it was just Iraq, and it will only increase as time passes, clearly putting a severe strain on a military budget that the president is determined to continue cutting.
I guess Obama is a believer in "more is less," which, of course, is nonsense, and so is his plan for our military.

If Obama gets what he's projected in terms of military spending – and the cuts he's made to development of new weapon systems and aircraft, we'll have the smallest Army since pre-World War II and the smallest Navy since pre-World War I. Put that together with the massive cuts in manpower, and it would be a miracle if we could even defend ourselves in a "war," much less lead any military attacks.
But then, this is a president who refuses to use the word "war" even when he is sending our planes and crews into attacks on specific targets supposedly to eliminate the ISIS/ISIL threat.
TRENDING: What a difference a day makes
He weasels out of that "war" commitment by saying – no, promising – that we will not have any boots on the ground. He seems to think this will appease Americans who aren't happy (to say the least) about the seemingly unending wars we've been involved in and the casualties and deaths we've endured, but with no victory in sight.
All we get from Obama and his administration is the statement that we will pull out of Afghanistan, ending that war.

Tell that to the Taliban – or al-Qaida, or ISIS, or ISIL, or Khoresan or whoever is the latest terrorist threat. I doubt they're shaking in their boots in fear of the U.S. or anyone else.
They declare war on us and Western civilization, and we refuse to believe them.
And of course, while we aren't at war with militant Islam or ISIS or ISIL or whatever you want to call those killers, the man in the Oval Office has declared war on bacteria. I am not kidding. Barack Obama has declared war on antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
He said he's concerned about the illnesses resulting from such bacteria and deaths that should have been prevented by the latest antibiotics. A special task force is being put together with the money needed to win this war!
Obama has also declared war on sexual assaults especially on campuses. He wants to put an end to a growing number of assaults on women and demands it be stopped. Judging by the information pouring out of the media, we're led to believe that anything female is a target and a victim.

Exactly how this war will be won remains to be seen but now we have literal contracts to be used by males and females who might want to get affectionate. How Obama will control the use of alcohol and drugs in such situations and the lack of common sense by too many young people (yes, women, too!) are probably the questions of the century.
Then, of course, we're at war with Ebola – and in this, we do have boots on the ground. The first contingent of what we're told will be some 3,000 military is already in Liberia, and we'll spend at least $750 million for the "war" against the disease. Expect that figure to increase.
Do you really believe our military men and women aren't in danger?
First, from Ebola, that's already killed thousands and may well develop into a worldwide pandemic.

But they're also in physical danger from frightened people. A Red Cross team was just attacked and another group of nine, medical workers and journalists, were slaughtered in cold blood – their throats cut and bodies dumped into a latrine.
It's believed the attackers were driven by pure fear.
Why do we send the military to deal with medical issues? How do we protect them from death or from bringing the pathogen home to contaminate us and their families?
The truth is, we can't.
The truth is, it's just another Obama gimmick to water down our military from a first-rate fighting force to a social-welfare outfit.
The result may be exactly what Obama wants – a smaller, weaker military.
And speaking of protecting us from Ebola, the CDC is telling all airlines to "treat all body fluids as infectious."
Guidelines say to keep an eye on possibly sick travelers, protect crew and passengers from infection and explain how to clean the plane and disinfect contaminated areas.
Sick passengers can be refused boarding or removed from planes; if there's sickness during the flight, the crew has protective equipment and infection-control cleaning should be done.
No problem with that except for the last line, quote:
"Treat all body fluids as though they are infectious."
Wow! That means everything that touches the mouths of passengers – cups and utensils.
What about bathrooms? What are they going to do with the body fluids and waste?
Do they have special sewers or will it all be put into main sewer systems? Can Ebola be transmitted that way? Remember, they said to treat all bodily fluids as infectious.
I think we're asking for trouble. Whether Obama calls it a war or not, I don't think he has the answer, either.
We're in big trouble.
