(NBC NEWS) PRETORIA, South Africa - Paralympic track star Oscar Pistorius was convicted Friday of culpable homicide - an offense similar to manslaughter - for the shooting death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
The double amputee was acquitted of murder during the detailed and lengthy verdict at a court in South Africa. South Africa's prosecuting authority said on Friday it was "disappointed" with the trial's outcome, according to Reuters.
Judge Thokozile Masipa ruled that Pistorius will be released on bail until his sentencing on October 13. Pistorius has been out on bail throughout the marathon trial.
