Toward the end of the U.S. Civil War, Union Gen. George Armstrong Custer began a series of executions of Confederate prisoners of war, who had been captured from among the Rangers of Confederate Col. John B. Mosby.
So, when Mosby learned of this atrocity, he ordered that straws be drawn from among a considerable number of his Union army prisoners. (Among those who drew what would be their death certificates was a very young drummer boy – whose life was saved when a Union army officer volunteered to take the boy's place and was hanged.)
Mosby's retaliation soon brought an end to such horrors of war, which simply cannot be compared to the death sentences that continue, particularly in the prisons of Texas and Florida.

The Rangers who were executed by Custer can no more be compared to civilian murderers than combat soldiers who kill in battle can be disparaged as murderers.
Our nation is presently confronted by murderous Muslims – as reported by the Washington Post:

"A new Islamic State video released Friday depicts the beheading of a 47-year-old British aid worker and shows another potential victim, an American hostage who is a former U.S. Army Ranger and veteran of the Iraq war.
"The killing of Alan Henning marked the fourth video in which the same Islamic State militant has decapitated a hostage. The group has also killed two American journalists and another British aid worker.

"In the latest video, the militant, dubbed 'Jihadi John,' threatens to kill the American, Peter Edward Kassig, 26, who disappeared Oct. 1, 2013, on his way to Deir al-Zour in eastern Syria."
In a statement, President Obama declared:
"The United States strongly condemns the brutal murder of United Kingdom citizen Alan Henning by the terrorist group ISIL. Standing together with a broad coalition of allies and partners, we will continue taking decisive action to degrade and ultimately destroy ISIL."
Despite this Obama threat, the Islamic beheadings continue with more promised to come.
What would surely seem more effective than Obama's disparaging would be an Obama announcement that he had ordered Navy SEALs and Army Special Forces to engage in campaigns of mass capture of ISIS and other Muslim murderers of our troops.

Then, with massive capture, an order could be given to execute five to 10 of these Muslim killers for every one of American forces and allies who are beheaded.
Surely, our American forces know where most of these Islamic extremists are located. All they need is orders from the commander in chief to wipe out these mass killers who would, under such circumstances, be unable to continue their brutal beheadings.
Such action has not been ordered by Obama, and the beheadings continue.
