Rep. Nancy Pelosi, in an effort to save her job as minority leader, has played the sexism card.
After the devastating midterm losses, the obvious question is: Should Pelosi be replaced as leader of the House Democrats? When asked this by reporters, she turned the conversation to one of the sacred pillars of the Democratic Party: gender. In case you're taking notes, the other two Democrat sacred pillars are race and homosexuality.
Democrats are very skilled at changing any discussion to one of these pillars, and it is only natural that Pelosi use that tactic to save her own skin. If she had been black, she would have played the race card and accused anyone questioning her leadership position as being racist. If she were homosexual, she would have pulled that card out of her pantsuit, too.

Pelosi complained that Mitch McConnell has not been pressed with the same questions to step down from his leadership position in the Senate over the years. She's sure the questions have nothing to do with the fact that she led Democrats into an historic defeat in the midterms. Pressure for her to step down is only based on her gender, she claims.

Enter Rep. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill.
Rep. Duckworth is a double amputee who lost her legs while serving in the war in Iraq. She is in the final stages of a complicated pregnancy and has been advised by her doctor not to travel.

Her travel restrictions keep her from going to D.C. to vote in the House Democratic leadership and committee member elections this week. Duckworth has requested a proxy vote and fellow Illinois Democratic Representative Jan Schakowsky offered a motion to allow Duckworth to vote by proxy in this instance.
Surely, the Democrats, who are champions for the equality of women, would be happy to allow Duckworth to vote in their caucus elections. This would make headlines across the country! For Democrats to allow their double-amputee pregnant female war hero to vote would show who the real purveyors of gender equality are in Washington!
There is one small problem, though. Duckworth and Pelosi don't agree on some of the votes that will take place this week.
Pelosi has chosen her roster of representatives who she would like caucus members to elect to committee positions this week, and Duckworth has publicly placed her support behind different candidates.
Pelosi is all about gender equality – except when it threatens her power.

Luckily, in the midterms, women woke up to the fact that they were being used for their votes. Rep. Tammy Duckworth is learning the same lesson about the leadership in her party.
Let's hope Democrats keep exposing their hypocrisy. And let's hope Democrats keep Nancy Pelosi in the leadership of their party for as long as possible. She is one of the greatest examples of liberal hypocrisy, and she shows where true sexism in America lies: The Democratic Party.
