Stewart Stogel, a reporter who covered the United Nations for WND and whose work also appeared in Time and Newsweek, has died of complications from advanced diabetes.

Stogel, 60, reported for a wide range of media outlets in addition to his nearly two years of work for WND, including ABC News and NBC News. He also provided coverage for Newsweek, the Miami Herald and the Washington Times.

Stogel’s reporting remains archived at WND.

He covered major stories, including the death of legendary Alabama football coach Paul “Bear” Bryant, the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 1991 and the U.S hunt for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

Robert Unruh, assignments editor for WND, said Stogel’s quick and concise writing about the complexities of the U.N. would be sorely missed.

“He was a fine journalist whose absence from the front lines of reporting will be felt in many ways,” he said.

Added WND Managing Editor David Kupelian: “Stew Stogel was a gutsy, veteran journalist who was not afraid to stand up and confront powerful people abusing their positions. The world could use more reporters like Stew.”
