(Digital Journal) U.S. central command said Friday that America and partner states conducted 20 air strikes on the Islamic State between Wednesday and Friday nights. Many of those strikes were directed at the battle-weary town of Kobani, others in northern Iraq.

At statement from central command (Centcom) said the attacks on Kobani hit six Islamic State fighting positions, destroying them. Centcom also said that a “heavy weapon” was destroyed, but did not elaborate.

Kobani is the town in northern Syria near the Turkish border that has been under siege by IS fighters since September. The western part of Kobani is controlled by the Islamic State.
