(New Orleans Times-Picayune) Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, predicted that the House Thursday will pass a $1.013 trillion spending bill, despite complaints from some conservatives it doesn’t block President Barack Obama’s controversial executive order on immigration.
Rep. John Fleming, R-Minden, who said he is eyeing a run for the U.S. Senate in 2016, predicted 60-80 conservatives would vote no, forcing Boehner to rely on Democratic votes to pass the spending measure that would end the threat of a government shutdown if signed into law by President Barack Obama. Still, Democrats said there’s strong opposition to some of the spending bill’s riders and that the speaker might have trouble drawing the needed votes.
