Fairness? Obama talks about fairness?

By Joseph Farah

“When any part of the American family does not feel like it is being treated fairly, that’s a problem for all of us.”

– Barack Obama, Dec. 1, 2014

Spoken like a true utopian.

Spoken like a true hypocrite.

Spoken like someone whose words mean something other than what they plainly denote.

Barack Obama spoke these words this week after meeting with Ferguson agitators.

Just think about that statement: Will there ever be a time in a nation of 350 million people when some do not feel aggrieved? Is it really a problem for all of us when some people feel like they are being treated unfairly when they are not?

It may be words like this that make people like me angrier at Barack Obama than when he comes right out and says what he actually means.

What he actually means in this case is that black people need more paternalism and stroking from Washington. They need this, apparently, because black people are by and large too dumb to recognize that a young man who mugs a shopkeeper in Ferguson, Missouri, then goes on to punch out a police officer and struggle with him over his gun is likely to get shot and killed – regardless of his color.

Obama is a utopian who believes that if he and smart people like him meddle in every human endeavor all will be well with the planet.

He’s also a hypocrite:

  • He doesn’t treat people fairly himself. He uses his Internal Revenue Service to target those who disagree with him. He did this after explaining with unusual candor in a 2010 campaign speech: “We’re going to punish our enemies and reward our friends who stand with us.”
  • While leaping to incorrect and wholly unfair conclusions about the death of Michael Brown, he still has not spoken a word about the death of Miriam Carey, a young, unarmed black woman in Washington, D.C., a year ago who died in a hail of gunfire at the hands of the Capitol Police. She committed no crime. His own Justice Department under Eric Holder has helped ensure that videotape of the incident has been suppressed. No charges were brought against anyone.
  • Obama did everything humanly possible to enflame the situation in Ferguson from the start – and to ensure those who misunderstood what happened continued to act without understanding.

But, most of all, Obama talks in double-speak.

How is he going to rectify the unhealthy and dangerous situation he created?

You guessed it! The federal government’s going to get more involved in local and state policing.

Obama questioned the wisdom of “militarizing” the police – a real problem created during Bill Clinton’s administration. Local and state police have, in effect, been bribed with offers from Washington of military gear and hardware and military-style training programs. I have always seen it as a way for the federal government to both militarize and federalize the state and local police. Obama doesn’t plan to end the program, just bring “transparency” to it.

He is, however, planning to “expand funding and training for local law enforcement,” which has the effect of deputizing them as agents of Washington and federal power.

That’s what he actually means.

That’s what he actually said.

That’s his solution to the “unfairness” felt in Ferguson.

Do you think that’s a solution? Or is that the problem?

How did the federal government handle the Miriam Carey incident? They swept it under the rug. They covered it up. They had no one else to blame. As long as Obama has someone else to blame for problems on his watch, he’s always got an angle. He had no one to blame but his own Capitol Police for the death of Miriam Carey. He had no one to blame but his own Justice Department for the way the incident was handled after the fact. That’s why he has been silent on it for more than a year.

Double-talker.

Please don’t lecture us about fairness.
