(New York Magazine) A report published last night by WPLG Local 10 News in Miami says a Broward Co. judge has issued an order that temporarily bans the city of Ft. Lauderdale from making arrests or issuing citations for feeding the homeless. Judge Thomas Lynch ruled that there are to be no arrests or citations for 30 days for violating the new city ordinance that went into effect Oct. 31 that bans feeding the homeless in public places.

The Fort Lauderdale ordinance says feeding sites cannot be within 500 feet of each other and have to be at least 500 feet away from residential property. Any groups feeding the homeless are also required to provide portable toilets. Violators face up to 60 days in jail and fines of up to $500.
